(Born: January 14, 1807 - Died:????)

Crump was a student at the University of Virginia at the time that Poe was there. His birth date is listed in the Matriculation Book for the University of Virginia, for February 1826. His guardian, presumably his father, is listed as Seaborn W. Crump, of New Kent Co., VA. It does not appear that he returned for subsequent studies. Thomson’s Mercantile and Professional Directory for the States of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, etc. (1851-1852) lists Edward G. Crump as an attorney, living in New Kent County, VA. Presumably the same Edward G. Crump was one of several gentleman in New Kent County, VA who wrote a public letter to President John Tyler on November 8, 1841, inviting Tyler to a special dinner, which Tyler was forced to decline due to other engagements. The letter was published first in the Richmond Whig (before Nov. 17, 1841), and reprinted in the Albany Argus (for November 17, 1841), Niles Register (for November 20, 1841), and other newspapers at the time.
