Charles Dickens

(Born: February 7, 1812 - Died: June 9, 1870)

English novelist and social critic. According to the Native Virginian (Orange Court House, VA), vol. I, vol. 14, February 14, 1868, p. 2, col. 5: “Dickens, it is reported, has sent $1,000 to Mrs. Clemm, mother-in-law of Edgar A. Poe.”
