[page 2, column 4, continued:]

THE ROSE; or, Affection's Gift for 1845. — Illustrated with ten highly-finished steel engravings. New York, D. Appleton and Company. Philadelphia, George S. Appleton. — This volume is well selected, adorned, and adapted to attract and interest our juniors. The Annuals, when they are of intrinsic value, are very appropriate memorials of attachment; and to youth, when arrived at mature age, will aptly recall the remembrance of the elder friend, who, by this gift of Affection, bestows a Rose which will suit the fragrant odour of Friendship, long after the year 1845 shall have passed away.
