[page 398, column 1, continued:]

The Works of the late Edgar Allan Poe. With a Memoir by Rufus Wilmot Griswold. Volume IV. New York: Redfield. 1856.

This publication makes entire Redfield's issue of the works of one of the most extraordinary geniuses this country has ever produced. This volume gives [column 2:] several of the most popular and meritorious of the author's prose compositions — a department in which his faculties show with a lustre all their own. There is much in Poe's history to forgive, much to pity. His case is a remarkable illustration of “the infirmities of genius.”
