New Lecturer on Poe.

Some of the friends of Dr. J. J. Moran, of Falls Church. having learned that he was preparing a lecture on Edgar Allen Poe, in which he will include many of his hitherto unpublished letters, have invited him to deliver the same in this city, at his earliest convenience. Among the signers of the letter were: President Garfield, James C. Welling, Vionie Ream Hoxie, R. G. Ingersoll, David D. Porter, Albert Pike, Mary Clemmer. George B. Loring, Garrick Mallon, E. M. Gallaudet, E. A. Fay, Horatio King. Madeline V. Dahigren. J. W. Powell, Frances H. Burnett, M. Benjamin Alvord, William B. Hott, J. B. Bentley, T. B. Hood, F. N. Graham, Mrs. R. Cary Long, Margaret K. Stone, George A. Sheridan, John T. Ford, Crosby F. Noves, Caroline D. Hansom, George Hallet Kilboura, Henry W. Austin. Richard H. Sylvester, Janies Bierne. F. H. Kauffman. Eliner it. Reynolds, J. M. Toner and Wills De Hass. To this letter Dr. Moran replied, and after returning thanks for the distinguished compliment paid him, said that he would told himself in readiness to deliver the lecture at such time as they might designate.

Notes:

Dr. Moran also delivered other lectures. In 1884, for example, he lectured on “How to Get a Good Character.” The most interesting name on this list is that of President Garfield.
