[page 4, column 2, continued:]
The Monument to Edgar Allan Poe. — Professor Henry E. Shepperd, superintendent elect of public instruction, is to deliver the address on the occasion of the dedication of the monument to Edgar Allan Poe, which is to be erected under the auspices of the Public School Teachers’ Association of Baltimore, in Westminster Cemetery, on West Fayette street. The monument is now receiving the finishing touches of the sculptor's chisel at the studio of Mr. Hugh Sisson, who has been selected by the committee in charge of the matter to furnish the monument. It is being fashioned of the purest Italian marble, the design comprising an obelisk on a pediment, four paneled, front of which will present a bas-relief of the poet. The monument will be erected and the dedicatory exercises take place early in September.
