Poe's West Point Career. — Some one has been hunting up Cadet Edgar A. Poe's record at the Military Academy, West Point. in 1831. His account, running from January 1 to March 6, 1831, shows his indebtedness to have been $84.85, and on the credit side $85.09. The principle item of his indebtness was $33 to the “store-keeper,” which is pointed out as significant. He left the academy with twenty-four cents in pocket. The proceedings of his court martial are short and trivial. It took place on January 28, 1831, and the specifications are: Absence from studies, roll-calls and parades. The witnesses were Cadets B. Bennett, Robert Allen, (now quartermaster general,) P. Ogden, Samuel R. Curtis and S. H. Miller. The following indorsement appears on the back of the statement of his account: “It is respectfully recommended that Cadet Poe's dismission may take effect on the 6th of March, in order that his pay may be sufficient to satisfy his creditors.”
