Notes:
Bette S. Weidman was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1941. She obtained her B. A. from Syracuse University in 1962. She earned her M.A. and Ph.D. in English from Columbia University in 1968. She is professor emerita of American Literature at Queens College, CUNY, where she taught from 1969 to 2017. She specialized in 19th and 20th century American and English literatures and introduced courses on Native American literature and on oral history. She has also published on historic photography of Long Island. Thanks are due to Dr. Weidman for proofreading the online text, and to her daughter, Nadine Weidman, for providing technical assistance in the effort.
