Index
The only items indexed under Poe are his works. For his relation to persons (such as Longfellow), to events (such as his Boston Lyceum performance), to ideas (such as “The Heresy of The Didactic”), and to periodicals (such as the New York Mirror), see under persons, events, ideas, and periodicals concerned. With this exception and that of Longfellow, the titles of whose works appear under his name, authors and titles are indexed separately, except where obfuscation might occur. Titles of works are followed by identification of the author; titles of periodicals are followed by their places of publication when this information is not already contained in the titles themselves. When a subject is mentioned in text and footnote on the same page, the footnote has not been indexed. Works more or less contemporaneous with Poe and those mentioned in the text have been indexed; other works mentioned in the notes have not.
