Each year, the Mystery Writers of America recognizes fine writing (novels, short stories, television and film) in its selected genre with these awards. In mystery circles — with such eminent prior recipients as Rex Stout, Raymond Chandler and Ellery Queen — the Edgar is highly prized. Organized in 1945, the Mystery Writers of America (MWA) defines itself as “promoting and protecting the interests and welfare of mystery writers and to increase the esteem and literary recognition given to the genre.” The MWA may be contacted at its web site: http://www.mysterywriters.org/
