Edgar Allen [[Allan]] Poe.
————
Not very long ago some kind friends and admirers hunted up the neglected grave of poor Poe in a churchyard at Baltimore, cleared the enshrouding weeds away and erected a monument to his memory. Mr. Eugene L. Didier, of Baltimore, is now engaged in writing a new and more complete life of the weird and melancholy dreamer, which is to be published in September. Mr. Didier has gathered many new and interesting facts concerning the career and characteristics of the poet from his classmates in Virginia and the members. of the family in Baltimore. In addition to this five complete and hitherto unpublished poems are about to appear in The Belgravia. Thus, as time steals along, the merits of Edgar A. Poe are being recognized, both at home and abroad, and we may fondly hope that the croak of the raven he has immortalized will lose something of its menace and despair as his fame shines out in fuller luster, and his sorrowing soul yet be lifted from the “shadow on the floor.”
