Remarkable Preservation of Poe's Brain.
Messrs. Editors Gazette:
It was discovered by a medical gentleman present that the brain of the poet Poe, on the opening of his grave a few days since for the proper placing of his massive monument about to be erected to his memory, was in an almost perfect state of preservation.
The cerebral mass, as seen through the base of the skull, evidenced no signs of disintegration or decay, though, of course, it was somewhat diminished in size. The skull was intact, and the general skeleton was in as good a condition as an anatomical preparation in a doctor's office.
The superior and inferior maxillary bones were in situ, and the teeth, some of which were dislodged, were as faultless as the new set of a dentist.
