NOTE

The editors have in mind to next prepare for publication other important discoveries of Poeana. Among these are the only known original copy of the Philadelphia Saturday Museum critique of Griswold's Poets and Poetry of America, which W. F. Gill published in an altered form, in the later editions of his biography of Poe; the only known copy of the first edition of the February 25, 1843, Biography of Edgar A. Poe, with variations of the poems not formerly known, and with a portrait not previously reproduced, and a complete history of same; and a unique prospectus of the Stylus Magazine, together with other related Poe items of interest.

Notes:

The subsequent publications were never realized. The biographical article on Poe from the Saturday Museum, from the February 25, 1843 issue may be read here, along with the slightly revised version of March 4, 1843. There has been some question concerning the nature of the clippings that were owned by Rindfleish but currently unlocated except in the form of photocopies. Jeffrey A. Savoye argues for the authenticity of the earlier version in “Mystery in the Museum,” Poe Studies, 2013, vol. 46, pp. 98-101. The prospectus of the Stylus was presumably from other clippings of the February 25, 1843 issue, reprinted in the issues for March 4 and March 11, 1843.
