Washington Allston

Washington Allston

(Born: November 5, 1779 - Died: July 9, 1843)

American painter and poet. He grew up in Newport, RI, and graduated from Harvard in 1800. The following year, he became a student at the Royal Academy in London, and three years later studied the old masters in Rome. He returned to Boston in 1809. His first wife was the sister of William Ellery Channing, and his second wife was the sister of Richard H. Dana.
