(Born: January 21, 1809 - Died: October 23, 1850)

American journalist, editor and author. He served about the frigate Constitution from August 1835 - April 4, 1836, later publishing a 10-part series of “Sketches from the Log of Old Ironsides” in Burton’s Gentleman’s Magazine, beginning with the issue for July 1839. According to an October 10, 1844 letter from F. W. Thomas to Poe, Dow was the doorkeeper of the House of Representatives.
