(Born: October 1, 1807 - Died: 1864)

American medical doctor, educator, Episcopalian minister and minor poet. He was born in Lebanon, CT. He married Mary Brewster Baldwin. He attended Hamilton College in 1826, and graduated from West Point in 1831. (Within one month, he also graduated from Union College.) He served as a Lieutenant in the US Engineer Corps. He was a professor of Chemistry at the University of Pennsylvania, beginning in 1836. He was ordained as a minister in 1843. He became president of Racine College in 1852. He died in Chicago, IL, where he had founded a school in 1863 and was serving as the Principal at the time of his death.
