Notes:

The Columbia Spy was published every Saturday, at least during the relevant period (although a few issues appear on other days, such as Thursday or Wednesday). As a newspaper, it followed a somewhat irregular approach of one volume each 52 issues, with periods shifting slightly around the end of April and the beginning of May of each year.

There is considerable controversy surrounding the attibution of several items. Because so few copies have survived from the period of Poe's chief association with the newspaper, it is possible that other unknown items were contributed and printed.

Most of these items were first identified by Jacob E. Spannuth and T. O. Mabbott and reprinted, with introductory material and useful annotations, in Doings of Gotham, Pottsville, PA: Jacob E. Spannuth, 1929.
