(in chronological order)
The Gift: A Christmas and New Year's Present for 1840 (Philadelphia: Carey and Hart, copr. 1839): Motto for “William Wilson” [A].
American Melodies, ed. George P. Morris (New York: Linen & Fennell, 1841; copr. 1840): To One in Paradise [F].
The Poets and Poetry of America, ed. Rufus Wilmot Griswold (Philadelphia: Carey & Hart, 1842; eighth edition, 1847; tenth edition, dated 1850 but issued late in 1849). The most important anthology of the time. Although never on the best of terms with Poe, Griswold consulted him on his selections and was supplied by Poe with authorized texts. The first edition (1842) contained The Sleeper [E], The Coliseum [F], and The Haunted Palace [E]. Although a new edition appeared in almost every year, the Poe selections were not changed until there was a major revision in the eighth edition (1847). In it, texts of The Conqueror Worm [H] and The Raven [P] were added. The tenth edition, dated 1850 but issued late in 1849, was again extensively revised. Griswold now omitted The Coliseum and added Israfel [H], The City in the Sea [G], To One in Paradise [P], To Zante [G], Lenore [G], Dreamland [D], Ulalume [F], To Helen [Whitman] [D], For Annie [F], and Annabel Lee [J]. In all subsequent editions Poe's poems are printed from the plates used for the tenth.
The Poetry of the Sentiments, ed Rufus Wilmot Griswold (Philadelphia: Uriah Hunt & Son, 1845. Stereotyped; reissued in 1846 and occasionally after 1850): The Coliseum [K].
The Missionary Memorial: A Literary and Religious Souvenir (New York: E. Walker, 1846; copr. 1845): The Lake [E].
Leaflets of Memory: An Illuminated Annual for MDCCCL, ed. Reynell Coates. (Philadelphia: E. H. Butler & Co., 1850; actually issued and reviewed in 1849): To My Mother [C].
