41. Mrs. Annie L. Richmond, ca. 1875
Courtesy of the Center for Lowell History, University of Massachusetts, Lowell
Only one other portrait of Poe's Annie is known, a close-up profile of her head, reproduced in Phillips (2:1294). That picture appears to have been taken about the same time as the photograph shown here, featuring the same hair style, although different clothing.
42. Mrs. Elmira Royster, ca. 1850
Courtesy of the Edgar Allan Poe Society of Baltimore
This copy from a daguerreotype shows Mrs. Shelton about the time of Poe's 1849 courtship of his childhood sweetheart, by then a widow. Another portrait, showing a somewhat older sitter, is reproduced in Kenneth Silverman, Edgar Allan Poe: Mournful and Never-ending Remembrance as illustration 30.
