55. Prospectus of the Stylus, April 1848, broadside
Courtesy of the University of Virginia, Ingram Collection
The handwritten notation of “July 1842,” indicating when Poe left Graham's Magazine (although it should be May 1842), was probably made by J. H. Ingram. The name “Anthon,” for Charles Anthon, supplying the identity of the “most distinguished of American scholars,” may have been written by Poe. Regrettably, it is unclear from whom Ingram obtained this prospectus, or to whom Poe may have originally sent this copy.
